Setting Up A Photography Business

As I'm sure many of you are aware, although I have been a keen photographer for years, my photography business venture has only just started. I had no idea at all how well it would do, or if it would do well at all.

However, I have been absolutely blown away with the four commissions, the many comments of support and encouragement and the shares on social media. Then there is the fact that I have had well over 400 likes on my Facebook page in only a few weeks. WOW!

But last week saw the highlight of my photography business so far... I was contacted by a couple with baby twins who had seen my work on Facebook and wondered if I could fit them in for a family commission. We had to rearrange a couple of days due to weather, but finally got to work last Sunday.

We decided on Stowe Gardens, I have to say I am in love with the diversity of this stunning National Trust property. With the beautiful bright leaves at this time of the year and the sun beating down, it was the perfect setting for a family shoot.

Having young twins myself, I understood the difficulties of photographing them both together and how getting them both to look at the camera, was possible with a bit of tomfoolery. Loud cooing, hand waving, jumping up and down, crawling on my stomach through mud while waving my legs in the air, all featured to get this shoot perfect.

Needless to say I'm not shy! In fact, I'm quite happy to do what it takes to get the image I need and that the clients want. However, once back in the warmth of my living room and after having shared a couple of my favourite images on my Facebook page, I was told that these were not just normal everyday clients.

These clients actually own their own local wedding photography business and have done for years! Yikes, the panic set in and the pressure was on. Thankfully, they chose not to tell me beforehand, as they didn't want me to feel pressured throughout the shoot.

Of course, I checked, checked and checked again the edited images before I handed them over, knowing that a trained eye would pick up on any slight mistakes. But thankfully they loved them and I was sent some very kind and encouraging texts from them both this week.

However, the highlight was that they also offered me to be the second photographer for their bigger weddings next year. What a great experience that will be, and a fantastic boost to my ever growing confidence. Now I just wished I'd started my photography business sooner, instead of spending years thinking I wasn't good enough :-)
